G700 - Exploration in Minimalism

G700 DEMONSTRATOR #1

The request for a minimalist scheme for the new flagship aircraft, the G700, resulted in a deeper exploration of the concept. Instead of repeating the same material or color throughout the design, contrast, pattern, and color are emphasized with maximum restraint. No two living areas are articulated the same, visually breaking up the cabin, but preserving a unified whole.

SEAT DESIGNS THROUGHOUT CABIN

Crew areas, forward cabin, dining cabin, and sleeping cabin seating displays variations on a theme. Aside from visually breaking up the longest cabin ever produced, durability concerns are addressed with material choice.

Based off of preliminary engineering drawings, carpet iterations were created to punctuate the experience as the user moved through the space. Each cabin was emphasized with the over scale pattern. A custom carpet was specified.

Multiple seat stylings, quilted patterns, material details, and accents were explored. Here an insert with a rounded element, similar to the carpet is attempted. Ultimately, the pattern proved too eye-catching for final selection.

This approach to minimalism embraced detail but carefully balanced the elements so the design read as one whole as opposed to parts.

This design was ultimately selected to be showcased on the first G700 to enter service. The highly detailed interior will help engineers test components and function in flight test before customers are able to experience this aircraft as the very first G700 Demonstrator.

G500 - Sport Demonstrators

VOLTAIC SUPERCAR SPORT

Inspired by supercars like McLaren, Ferrari, and Lamborghini, this design of the G500 uses sharp contrast, carbon fiber patterns, and bright colors. The seat styling is symmetrical to the aircraft, not the single seat, enhancing the idea of the jet as a singular, fast moving object. Voltaic green speaks directly to the inspiration and is found not only in the expected places, pillows and stitch details, but can also be found back-lining the large perforation on the seats. Both carpet and veneer have strong geometric patterns, enhancing the concept of speed. Navy seat in the dining cabin visually separate the long cabin and add extra protection against spills.

VINTAGE SPORT

Rich, weathered, caramel leathers evoke the feeling of an equestrian event or the classic clubhouse. Seat leathers, stitch details, welts, and patterns are inspired by the same details and articulation found in classic Bughatti roadsters. Headrest reveals and seat back casings are rich, black leather, providing dramatic contrast.  Leathers throughout the cabin are textured, antiqued, and printed to create a layering effect filled with subtle details. Quilting is found on seats, pillows, and bulkhead pads which help to mitigate acoustics. Both carpet and veneer are traditional, through pattern and color respectively. Tables, galley, and lavatory have touches of an accent veneer with a silver line to add additional richness, similar to a vintage car. Living zones are distinguished with an inboard/outboard contrast line on the custom carpet, visually widening the cabin.

Seat Design

The customer desired a highly detailed interior. Inspiration was the customer's Fendi sofa in their property in Hawaii. All seams utilize contrast thread and flat welt detailing, drawing attention to the construction. The broken chevron quilted insert is perforated with a contrast embroidery detail, both increasing ergonomic comfort and adding another high contrast detail. Divan design is slightly altered for eating area, with leather, and sleeping area, with cashmere but exhibits the same detail elements highlighting construction and connection.

The customer required an interior serving dual purpose: one that could be utilized for special missions requiring an interior that would not easily be stained or marked and one that could easily carry VIP passengers. Seat leather was required to be dark but the customer wanted to avoid a dated interior. By incorporating small portions of antiqued leather and contrast stitch, the dark seat has a sporty and stylish appearance, evoking a day at the horse races. Outside arms and back were covered in a pebbled navy leather for additional durability and a unique textural quality.

SURFACE DESIGN

In aviation design, every last detail requires customization. The unique pattern was utilized in the customer's branding and incorporated here with these pillows with custom patterns/embroidery and coordinating fabrics.
